Acum 19 ani Dave Phillips era fondatorul unei trupe hardcore-trash, FEAR OF GOD, care pana la destramare in 1988 a ajus la stadiul de cult si a primit recenzii exceptionale care au deapsit hotarele Elvetiei.

In acelasi timp Phillips a inceput sa experimenteze diverse sound-uri (orice poate fi intensificat si adaptat cu ajutorul diferitelor jucarii electronice).

A facut parte din SCHIMPFLUCH-GRUPPE (psycho-physical tests and trainings) impreuna cu Rudolf Eb.er (Runzelstirn & Gurgelstock) si Joke Lanz (Sudden Infant). Fiind cunoscut sub diverse nume (Tower of Beef, D&S, Doug & Chuck, dp), Phillips a colaborat, incepand cu 1998 cu Stephen Thomas rezultand diverse proiecte din diverse domenii (balet, muzica de film).

Din acelasi an a invadat scena de DJ, folosindu-se de un nou pseudonim Eva D (pentru a creea mai multa confuzie).
Dave Phillips este unul dintre cei mai provocatori artisti elvetieni ai ultimilor 20 ani care a performat in Germania, Franta, Anglia, Norvegia, Italia, Japonia, S.U.A, Coreea de Sud, Rusia fiind un militant convins al drepturilor animalelor (pana la cea mai mica insecta), drepturile omului si a protectiei mediului, conceptii care se reflecta in proiectele lui.

In proiectele lui solo cauta aspectele emotionale, instinctive si animalice ale existentei umane in relatie cu omniprezenta reducere a potentialului uman. Este un mesaj critic si de/constructiv prin imagine si sound la adresa lumii moderne care minimalizeaza instinctele primare ale individului.

Prin sunete inregistrate direct din natura, permanenta cautare pentru noi modalitati de a lucra cu vocea sa impingand limitele la extrema, imagine si muzica experimentala, Dave Phillips transforma anexitatea in descoperire, emotia in expresie, imaginea in limbaj de comunicare.

starting off from the schimpfluch concept of ‘psycho-physical tests and trainings’ that deal with a therapeutical exploring of limitations and reactions of the psyche and the body, of realities and the senses, it creates a direct link to our surroundings (social as well as environmental) and the way we perceive them, of the creatures who inhabit this planet and of the happenings in this day and age - a reflection as well as a commenting, in a radical and critical way that is both liberated and liberating. someone once described it as “… a polemic catharsis that takes its inspiration from radical criticism of society and culture, from the search for elevation and relief in its locked-out pain, from a high level of charity and from a strongly nature-bound awareness…”in my solo-works i lead the instinctive, emotional and animalistic aspects of human existence back to a possible origin, to a base level of animalistic behaviour, but it’s not so much a reduction as it is a primal release, in relation to the omnipresent reduction of existence (and dignity, liberty, human potential), and the connected unconsciousness, to communicate in a criticial as well as in a de/constructive manner and of course also in a self-critical context, through words and images, which are of the modern world, as it is the modern world that debases man’s primal instincts. it deals with questions such as “how do i cope with the frightening world i live in?” and “how do I cope with the frightening mind i live in?”, and tries to transform anxiety into discovery, emotion into expression, and thus into communication. sound is my language, a language that is intimate, emotional and very personal, that also sets in before the spoken/thought language, before our hypertrophied rationality and logic is applied. the video that goes with my performance runs in 2 separate lines - one are the images, of animals the way they are used and treated by humans - the other is words, that deal with human existence - for me these two lines are definately linked, even though the presentation is rather metaphorical, our attitude towards animals is directly reflected in our attitude towards each other, in this day and age driven by greed, stupid religion, power, materialism, and our arrogance of thinking we are superior (be it as whites, as males, or as humans) …. one common denominator is my strong feelings and interest in animal rights, human rights and environmental protection, and my wanting to reach for a change… of course this could be explained a lot further, finally my work reflects my very personal perception and experiencing of the world around me…

– also, a short word about SCHIMPFLUCH: schimpfluch was founded on 28.12.1986 by rudolf eb.er who also coined the term of “psycho-physical tests and trainings”. schimpfluch (apart from being a label from 1987 - 1996) is a loose collective of bruitists and performers, at the core consisting of rudolf eb.er (runzelstirn & gurgelstock), joke lanz (sudden infant), dave phillips, and marc zeier (g*park), with a lot of our work published by daniel loewenbrueck (raionbashi, tochnit aleph label) who now also forms part of the collective. appearing as schimpfluch-gruppe (SH-G) in different constellations, we communicate via audio/sound-art, actionism, bruitism, performance, musique concrète, paintings, installations and writings.

the concept of “psycho-physical tests and trainings” describes a therapeutical debate and an actionistic testing of borders, limits and reactions of psyche and body, of realities and senses, in direct relation to given environments, to sentient beings and to current affairs, in a radical, critical but also in a liberating/liberated way…

Ei sunt cei care compilat tot nihilismul fara margini al ‘tiefpunk’-ului (tradus din germana ‘punk-ul de mare adancime’) egal cu noise-ul extrem japonez care considera pe Sex Pistols niste bieti cantautori de rock n roll. De obicei albumele lor sunt in editie limitata. Uneori vinilurile lor sunt facute special ca sa te ridici de pe scaun si sa pui bratul de platan pe urmatoarea conflagratie sonora, sau sunt facute din materiale neobisnuite(metal, carton, etc) si contin surprize nu tocmai placute in pungulite mici de plastic sigilate. Fa un cadou de neuitat iubitei, sefului de birou sau parintilor cu Costes, Runzelstirn & Gurgelstock, Kotschleuder, OHNE, Genetic Transmission, Sudden Infant, Evil Moisture sau …Dave Phillips.
