Folium is the second product in a series, resulting from collaboration between Romanian sound artist yvat and designers Alexe Popescu & Paul Dersidan. In the fall of 2006, the project is released on Romanian market under La Strada Music, as an expected sequel of the first DVD signed yvat&cut and appeared one year before at the same label. This first project has been presented as an exhibit at the Romanian National Museum of Contemporary Art, from Bucharest.
Yvat&cut’ project “Folium” offers 55 minutes of short raw videos mixed on experimental electronic music, in a synesthesia of sight and hearing, functioning as a simpler, more natural expression of surrounding world and, at the same time, communicating a strong logic of reality.
Geometry of yvat’s music reconstructs by using exclusively analogue sounds the intrinsic rationalism and motion of urban living and restores by peculiar disharmonies or euphonic lines the core of human experience.
Concurrently, finally crafted and eloquent message of raw recorded videos goes far beyond mere nostalgia for a pristine nature in the emerging digital world. The videos are always concerned primarily with the inherent potential of contiguous elements and in doing so then have consistently generated highly innovative perspectives over seeming stillness of the environment.

Both music and video are made without any computer processing, appealing only to hardware devices. The way of choosing subjects and filming is perfectly tuned to the way the music is composed. That is why even if the videos and the music are created independently, the final match is quite easy to reach. The packaging makes use only of silk screen printing on plastic DVD box.

Emergent message of this project is that modern world is structured on the urge to find is inner meaning. No longer do we speak face to face; a younger generation arch their backs in front of a monitor, making dead eyes; an older generation fear progress, learning to send e-mails, only to go home empty and longing to lick a stamp, to receive a heartfelt letter and hand written scented paper. But, still, it always rests a human genuine touch beyond this nest of wires built around mass communication, pin numbers, fake robotic feelings…
