Call for applications workshop participants DA Fest 2010

September 13 to 17 2010, National Academy of Art, Sofia

International Digital Arts Festival DA Fest is opening a call for
participants for three workshops during the 2010 festival.

Students and professional young artists can apply for the following workshops:

Express Fight Club, led by Max Schumacher and Sibin Vassilev of Post
Theater, to be held September 7 to 16 2010.

Creating Interactive Artworks with Isadora, led by Mark Coniglio of
TroikaRanch, to be held from September 13 to 15 2010.

Programming Reactive Live Visuals, led by Hexler (RJ Fischer), to be
held September 13 to 15 2010.

A brief description of each workshop can be found on the festival

Each workshop has 15 available places, of which 8 are reserved for
current and former students of the National Academy of Art. The
remaining places will be distributed among the other candidates.

The working language of all workshops is English.

To apply for participation in one of the workshops, fill in the

Applicants are requested to submit a brief curriculum vitae and
motivation for their participation in the workshop.

The fee for participation is 100 leva per person per workshop.
Students and graduates of the academy receive a 50% discount.

Selected applicants will be notified by September 5 2010 and are
requested to confirm their participation by September 7 2010.

To kick-start the festival’s night program at MAO, visomat inc. and telematique, two longstanding friends and allies of CTM, together with musician Errorsmith perform a live audio-visual composition on and with their large scale installation “Halbzeug Oberflächenveredelung” – surface refinement.

The installation “Halbzeug” is project in progress and a result of a long time research and development. It can be seen as an architectural study: modular, geometric Styrofoam elements arranged to create large-scale, adaptive spatial structures. Developed further as “Oberflächenveredelung” (Surface Refinement) it involves media in a way that is aiming at an interaction between a geometric body, light and sound. At MAO, “Halbzeug Oberflächenveredelung” elegantly adapts to and transforms the existing architecture where it covers parts of the main hall’s walls and ceiling. Video projectors are used to animate the structure by precisely tracing individual elements with light. It describes a path towards form and delivers a massive, sensual re-definition of space. Styrofoam is an industrial material; a completely synthetic product. It stands for functionality, simplicity and minimalism, exactly the qualities that the installation references in contemporary architecture and interior design.

The video has been generated via extreme amplification and magnification of digital video processor artefacts at the edge of visibility. Errors form shapes, shapes change over time, structures emerge. Manipulated and recorded in real time, fine tuning and editing afterwards.

One Magazine Publishes Bilingual Book

02-09 Selected Works and Events by One Magazine is a book in both Bulgarian and English, gathering some of the monthly publication’s best moments from its first seven years. Following the magazine’s tradition, the 400-page book is printed on recycled paper.
The first part of the book contains 33 of the magazine’s best written and visual stories on Bulgarian issues, people and places.
The second part introduces both in text and photos all the events that One Magazine has produced so far – protests, parties, exhibitions, concerts, and the annual festival events Sofia Dance Week, Sofia Design Week and Sofia Architecture Week.
One Magazine is an independent Bulgarian monthly magazine covering arts, culture and subcultures. It also explores a slew of urban, social and sustainability issues. It has been coming out since April 2002, and since 2007 has been printed on recycled paper.
One Magazine is also the initiator and producer of many cultural events, the biggest being the annual festivals Sofia Dance Week, Sofia Design Week and Sofia Architecture Week.

Call for experimental films – DA Fest

DA festival launch a call for experimental films for its screening programme, with deadline for submission 30th May 2010.

The second festival edition of the DA festival will take place from 13–17 September 2010, and will present a fascinating programme of events showing various trends and practices in the field of digital and electronic arts. More about the festival see here

We are interested in any cutting edge experiments with the moving image that could hardly fit to the traditional genres like fiction, documentary, or music video. Experimental films are not just about technical innovation, but its about new voices and new perspectives.

All genres and styles will be considered, including experimental film and video, art film, animation, etc.
Length up to 20 min.

Deadline for submission is 30th May 2010.
