Call for applications workshop participants DA Fest 2010

September 13 to 17 2010, National Academy of Art, Sofia

International Digital Arts Festival DA Fest is opening a call for
participants for three workshops during the 2010 festival.

Students and professional young artists can apply for the following workshops:

Express Fight Club, led by Max Schumacher and Sibin Vassilev of Post
Theater, to be held September 7 to 16 2010.

Creating Interactive Artworks with Isadora, led by Mark Coniglio of
TroikaRanch, to be held from September 13 to 15 2010.

Programming Reactive Live Visuals, led by Hexler (RJ Fischer), to be
held September 13 to 15 2010.

A brief description of each workshop can be found on the festival

Each workshop has 15 available places, of which 8 are reserved for
current and former students of the National Academy of Art. The
remaining places will be distributed among the other candidates.

The working language of all workshops is English.

Applicants are requested to submit a brief curriculum vitae and
motivation for their participation in the workshop.

The fee for participation is 100 leva per person per workshop.

requested to confirm their participation by September 7 2010.

u-matic + telematique are Berlin based visual artists and motion designers that have collaborated on projects, live video performances and video, kinetic and interactive light installations.

Randomform is a changing, shifting, multiple facet alias focused on structured and mechanical rhythms. Each track creates a image of moving pieces in a large structure that slowly changes form, becoming more and more complex or decomposing right before your eyes.

Randomform creates electronic music since 2005. He has released a few EPs and participated with tracks on compilations on various labels around the world: Crazy Language, Time Theory, Essentia Mundi, Section 27, Patpong Records, Bypass Netlabel, Datacrash Records.

To kick-start the festival’s night program at MAO, visomat inc. and telematique, two longstanding friends and allies of CTM, together with musician Errorsmith perform a live audio-visual composition on and with their large scale installation “Halbzeug Oberflächenveredelung” – surface refinement.

The installation “Halbzeug” is project in progress and a result of a long time research and development. It can be seen as an architectural study: modular, geometric Styrofoam elements arranged to create large-scale, adaptive spatial structures. Developed further as “Oberflächenveredelung” (Surface Refinement) it involves media in a way that is aiming at an interaction between a geometric body, light and sound. At MAO, “Halbzeug Oberflächenveredelung” elegantly adapts to and transforms the existing architecture where it covers parts of the main hall’s walls and ceiling. Video projectors are used to animate the structure by precisely tracing individual elements with light. It describes a path towards form and delivers a massive, sensual re-definition of space. Styrofoam is an industrial material; a completely synthetic product. It stands for functionality, simplicity and minimalism, exactly the qualities that the installation references in contemporary architecture and interior design.

‘Fixation Fields’ is Lillevan’s solo audio-visual performance which explores the relationships between light, rhythm, the eye and psychology.
Loosely inspired by the Rudolf Arnheim’s Gestalt theories of art and perception, Lillevan creates a visual arrangement of optical density and poetry, emphasizing how new relationships of moving imagery and sound are constructing meaning in today’s communication.

By investigating how new technical forms of image creation and distribution are affecting our perception and understanding of our surroundings,  ‘Fixation Fields’ is a work of abstract beauty and a celebration of synaesthetic diversity.

Using custom made software, ‘Fixation Fields’ generates sound by analyzing the image sequences, these sequences are collaged in real time from a massive library of visual & organic experiments collected during research over the last 10 years.

The moving imagery and the sounds are composed and manipulated during the performance, thus creating a dense filmic experience, a poetic manifesto of visual perception, of gaze-holding and gaze-shifting.

Lillevan is an animation, video and media artist. He is perhaps best known as founding member of the visual / music group Rechenzentrum (1997-2008).
Parallel to his work in Rechenzentrum, he has performed and collaborated with many artists from a wide array of genres as Fennesz, Vladislav Delay, Olga Neuwirth, Zeitkratzer, Tetsuo Furudate etc from opera to installation, from minimal electronic experimentalism to dance and classical music.
Lillevan has performed and exhibited all over the globe from Brazil to Siberia, Hong Kong to Canada, Korea to Cuba, Belgrade to Detroit, at all the major media festivals.
